Data removal and corrections

This process is for Twitch streamers whose channels are tracked here, and for managers, agencies or legal representatives acting on a streamer’s written authority. It is not a route for one person to request the removal of someone else’s channel.

Your channel is here because it broadcast publicly and the official Twitch API reported it. Nothing on your page came from a private source, an authenticated endpoint, or anywhere other than data Twitch makes available about public broadcasts. That does not oblige you to be comfortable with it, which is why this process exists.

By default we retain our own measurements: the timestamped viewer counts our system recorded, and the statistics derived from them — averages, peaks, estimated hours watched, hours streamed, growth figures. After a standard removal these are no longer published anywhere on the site; they persist as an internal record, attached to an identifier rather than to your name, avatar or words.

Two reasons, both worth stating plainly rather than burying:

• They are records of measurement, not copies of your content. “At 20:14:00Z we observed 412 concurrent viewers on a public broadcast” is a note our system made about something that happened in public. It contains none of your text, none of your images and none of your identity.
• They contribute to aggregates about other things. Category totals, platform-level trends and the historical shape of a game’s audience are all sums over many channels. Retroactively removing observations from those sums would silently corrupt figures that are not about you.

We will not, however, use retained observations to reconstruct a page about you, and a removed channel is never re-published without a fresh request from you.

Full erasure — deleting the underlying observations, per-broadcast aggregates, follower history, daily statistics and ranking entries as well as the cached material — is supported, and we will carry it out where you have a right to it or a serious reason for it.

Say so explicitly in your request and explain why, because it is not the default: it is irreversible, it slightly degrades historical category aggregates, and for most people the standard removal already achieves what they wanted. If you are making an erasure request under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or a comparable law, say so and we will assess it on that footing and answer within the statutory period, whether the answer is yes or a reasoned no.

If you delete your Twitch account, you do not need to contact us. Our profile refresh job notices that Twitch no longer returns the channel, and it automatically purges every piece of cached Twitch material and marks the page removed. That happens on its own schedule, typically within a day.

The same protection applies to suspension: a channel Twitch reports as suspended or unavailable is immediately dropped from search-engine listings while we wait to see what happens, rather than being advertised in that state.

We need one of the following. The second option is the one we recommend: it needs no accounts, no documents and no waiting on anyone else.

1. A one-time code in your channel description. Write to us, we reply with a short random code, you add it to your Twitch channel’s “About” section for as long as it takes us to see it through the API, and then remove it. Only someone who can log into the channel can do this.
2. A message from the channel’s published business or contact address, where your channel or its linked pages publish one, sent from that exact address.
3. A post from an account verifiably linked to the channel — a social account listed in your channel’s own panels or links — containing a code we supply.
4. For representatives: written authorisation from the channel owner, on identifiable letterhead or from the owner’s verified address,plus one of the three methods above completed by the owner.

We do not accept screenshots as sole proof — they are trivially fabricated — and we do not ask for, want, or store copies of government identity documents. If you send one unprompted we will delete it and ask you to use one of the methods above instead.

Verification material is used only to confirm the request and is deleted once the request is closed.

• Your channel URL on Twitch, and the URL of your page on this site.
• What you want done — a correction, a standard removal, or full erasure of the underlying measurements as described above.
• Which verification method you would like to use, so we can send you a code straight away rather than trading messages first.
• If you are a representative, who you act for and in what capacity.

You do not need to give a reason, and we will not press you for one — except for full erasure, where the reason genuinely affects how the request is assessed.

We acknowledge your message and send whatever verification code you have asked for.

Within five working days of verification

A standard removal is carried out. In practice it is usually the same day — verification is the slow part, not the deletion.

Within 30 days

Any request made under a data-protection law is answered within the statutory period, including full-erasure requests and any case where we decline and explain why. If a request is genuinely complex we will tell you before the deadline rather than after it.

If you have not heard from us within five working days, please resend — mail does go astray, and silence from us is a failure rather than an answer.

Once a removal is applied:

• Your page returns HTTP 410 Gone. That is the strongest signal available to a search engine that a URL is permanently withdrawn — stronger than a 404 — and it is the fastest way to have the page dropped from results.
• The URL is removed from our sitemap, and the channel disappears from rankings, category pages, similar-channel suggestions and on-site search.
• Internal links to the channel are dropped as those pages next rebuild, which happens continuously rather than on a release cycle.

What we cannot control is anyone else’s copy. Search engine caches, the Internet Archive, and third-party sites that copied a figure at some point are all outside our reach; those have to be pursued with whoever operates them. Removal here stops the source, and it usually clears search results within days, but it is not a retroactive erasure of the wider internet, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

A removal is recorded against the channel so that reappearing in the live Twitch directory does not quietly republish your page. If you do see it come back, tell us and we will fix it — that would be a bug, not a policy.

Removal is not always what people actually want. Most messages that arrive at this address turn out to be about a figure that looks wrong, and there are usually better answers than deleting a page:

• Stale name, avatar or description — cached Twitch material is refreshed on a schedule, so a recent change may not have propagated yet. Tell us and we will refresh it immediately.
• A number that looks wrong — the methodology page explains why our figures differ from a creator dashboard and from other trackers. If it still looks wrong after that, we want to know: errors we can fix, we fix.
• A missing period in your history — usually a sampling gap, which we render as a gap rather than as zero. We can tell you what happened during that window.
• An incorrectly merged or renamed channel — renames are tracked so old URLs redirect, and mistakes there are worth reporting.

Corrections carry no verification requirement, because fixing a factual error harms nobody. Write to [email protected], or see contact for what belongs where.
